Minimalism is the art of simplicity. It means living with only the things you need. Items that support your purpose. It starts by removing the distraction of excess possessions so you can focus more on the things that really matter.
It is a technique used in music, literature and design that is characterized by extreme spareness. In fashion, minimalism is defined as “owning a few sets of outfits.” They can be clothes with streamlined shapes, a small selection of colors – mainly the neutral ones: black, white, blue, brown, and gray.
The all-bases-covered clothing collection we’re talking about here is sometimes referred to as a “capsule wardrobe”.
What is a capsule wardrobe?
The definition of a capsule wardrobe is a collection of pieces that are:
- Timeless, so they can be worn for a long time and won’t go out of style.
- Versatile, so you can wear them in many settings by mixing and matching items into seamless combinations.
- Limited, so you don’t own too many things, and your decision making and maintenance are as minor as possible.
Imagine it’s early morning, and you’re getting ready to take on the day. Of all the things you have to arrange, your clothing should be…DONE…READY TO GO…without hassle. That’s the goal.
Get quality clothes
Since you will no longer have 10 pairs of jeans, 9 sweaters, 8 button up shirts, 6 pairs of shorts, 3 jackets, and 50 shirts, you will be wearing the same clothing more often. It pays to invest in quality clothes that will hold up to the extra wear and tear. I’m not saying that you need to spend RS:6000 on a t-shirt, but don’t go out and spend RS:300 on the cheapest Kmart t-shirt you can find either.
Build your wardrobe around what you need
Don’t need to wear a suit everyday for your job? Then you don’t need three suits. On the contrary, if you do need to wear a suit everyday, then you won’t be able to get by wearing your chinos and a t-shirt.
Also consider climate. A wardrobe in the Florida Keys will probably differ from a wardrobe in Buffalo, NY. So, personalize your wardrobe around what you need it for.
I am going to focus on a general, everyday, casual, minimalist wardrobe for men that will make you look nice and feel good for most situations.
